Located in Bay Village, a quiet lakeside community, the facility is 10 minutes from I-90 and Detroit Road, Crocker Park Shopping Complex, Avon Commons, medical and dental offices, public transportation, hotels, dining, Huntington Beach of the Cleveland Metroparks and more.

This month’s Resident of the Month is Ray U. Ray was born and raised in Chicago, where he lived until he joined the Air Force at age 19. Ray served for eight years during The Vietnam War. While in the service, Ray met friends from Cleveland and visited with them and liked it. When he discharged, he decided to move here! Ray worked selling optometry equipment for a number of years. He met his wife Joan downtown at a sporting event, and they got married just a few months later! They have now been married 44 years and counting.

They eventually opened an antique shop, “Cat’s Meow,” on Center Ridge in North Ridgeville. The store was open 12 years before construction to widen the road caused them to close the business. Ray and Joan have 3 daughters, 2 who live on the West Coast and 1 who lives in Canton. Ray has two grandchildren.

After completing his own military service, Ray remained involved with the Veteran population. He was the Commander of the VFW Post in Elyria, which at one time was the largest in Ohio, boasting 1,200 members! He also worked with The American Legion and The DAV (Disabled American Veterans). Here at O’Neill, Ray enjoys meeting other Veterans and often brings topics to the table at our bi-weekly Veterans Club. He said he likes being an advocate for others, teaching them and making them aware of benefits that may be available to them. Thank you Ray for your involvement and for sharing your story with us! We are happy to have you here at O’Neill Healthcare Bay Village!
