Coming Together for Dementia Education and Support
In March, O’Neill Healthcare hosted an educational dementia‑focused event, bringing together over 35 individuals seeking answers, guidance, and real support while navigating the complexities of dementia care for their loved ones.
What made this event impactful wasn’t just attendance—it was the community engagement. Attendees came ready with real questions, real concerns, and real situations. Through thoughtfully designed surveys, we were able to better understand where each person was in their journey, allowing for more meaningful conversations and tailored follow‑up resources.
Personal Perspectives That Resonate
A highlight of the evening was Anne Murphy, O’Neill Healthcare’s Assisted Living Liaison, who shared personal insight from her own family’s experience with dementia. She spoke candidly about the emotional weight caregivers carry and emphasized one of the hardest—but most important—decisions families face: recognizing the right time to seek additional support.
Her message was clear: assisted living and memory care aren’t about giving up independence; they’re about giving families relief, structure, and the ability to return to being daughters, sons, and spouses again—not just caregivers.
The evening also reflected the personal, family‑focused commitment behind O’Neill Healthcare’s mission. Richard O’Neill helped facilitate conversations throughout the event, sharing that his own grandparents were residents at O’Neill Healthcare Bay Village. His perspective reinforced what sets O’Neill apart: a legacy deeply rooted in listening to the community and responding to the real needs of the families they serve.
Clinical Guidance and Practical Next Steps
Dr. Supriya Mahajan also provided a clinical perspective, talking about the stages of dementia and outlining the practical steps families can take when it comes to medical care, treatment planning, and ongoing support. Her guidance helped bridge the gap between diagnosis and action—something many families struggle with.
There were also additional experts in attendance from the senior care field sharing information and resources related to legal advice, real estate, financial planning, hospice and palliative care, and more.
A Commitment Beyond a Single Event
Each attendee left with printed resources, but more importantly, a path forward. Our team at O’Neill Healthcare will also be following up directly with additional information based on individual survey responses and specific questions raised during the event—because one‑size‑fits‑all guidance doesn’t work in dementia care.
At O’Neill Healthcare, we understand that dementia is not just a diagnosis; it’s an ongoing, evolving journey that affects entire families. That’s why we are committed to providing support at every level of care.
Continuing Support for Every Stage of Dementia Care
For those exploring next steps, our specialized memory care communities in Bay Village and North Olmsted are designed with safety, structure, and dignity at the forefront, offering secure environments, trained staff, and programming tailored to cognitive needs.
